I've been questioning our modern, western approach to living life since my late teens. After encountering Stephen Mitchell's translation of the Tao Te Ching in 1997, I moved from questioning what didn't seem right, to what we might do about it. In the early 2000s, I began a 5 or 6-year present moment awareness practice following instructions from Eckart Tolle. After feeling like this practice had plateaued and looking for others for support, I found a description of Zen practice and thought it might be the support I was looking for. I walked into Appamada in 2009 determined to try it for 30 days. Within 5 days I knew I wasn't leaving.
